Velvet Elvis

May 16th, 2006

We are giving away Rob Bell’s book Velvet Elvis as a free gift to anyone in NWA who wants it because it is one of those books that has been formative for our thinking about life and love and God. We hope you enjoy it, and want to give you a forum here to talk about it.

Rob’s ability to connect the teachings of Jesus with his Jewishness is amazing. So many times when reading Velvet Elvis, I kept wondering, why haven’t I heard this before? I have gone to church all my life, I have gone to college and seminary, and I have read loads and loads of Christian books. So why haven’t I heard this before? Is he making it up or have I been a little dim? Probably, I have been dim, but I am happy to have the lights turned on!

I also enjoyed how Rob is so true to real life. He is not sugarcoating at all how it feels to live today. The struggles, doubts, and fears he expresses are all ones I have felt at times.

Velvet Elvis does what we want Vintage Fellowship to do - root itself deeply in the ancient faith so that it can bear fruit in postmodern culture.

What do you think?

Informational Meeting

May 11th, 2006

The Response has been overwhelming since the signs went out Monday night.  Thanks to all who have e-mailed, requested a copy of Velvet Elvis, or visited the site.  We’re trying to respond to everyone in a timely fashion, and get the books out in the next couple of days.

We will host an informational meeting for anyone interested in hearing more about Vintage Fellowship on Tuesday, May 23 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Samaritan Community Center in Springdale.  The center is just south of the AQ Chicken house in the Mathias Plaza on 71B, on the opposite side of the road from the Popeye statue.  Snacks will be provided and a door prize will be given away at the end of the meeting.  Join us to have your questions answered and find out how you can be involved in getting Vintage Fellowship off the ground!

The Blitz has Begun

Welcome to the Vintage website! If you saw one of the 200 signs we put out all over NWA, let us know which one got you to check us out. Feel free to let us know what you think of the site, and our plan for a new church in NWA.

Robb and Aaron get ready to blitz NWA.

Thanks, Ben, for your help!

Mattie and Calvin are ready for Vintage!

Vintage is going public.

Robb is running to get signs up.

Location, Location, Location

May 5th, 2006

So, it looks like we may be close to solidifying the Malco Twin Theater at the Northwest Arkansas Mall as our initial meeting place for the Gathering.  There are just a few details yet to fall into place, but all looks good.  This would be positive for the following reasons:

Everyone knows where the mall is.

There is plenty of parking.

Chairs are already set up.

The food court will be open when the Gathering lets out.

The valley around the mall is our geographic target area to reach with Vintage Fellowship.  The area is booming, and we believe it needs a church presence.  We believe people in Fayetteville, South Springdale, and all the surrounding areas are ready to join the Vintage community.

Pray with us that this works out, and plan to join us June 11 for our first service.  We’ll post updates when a meeting location is finalized.
